Recently, the China National Intellectual Property Administration officially recognized "Jiayuguan Onion" as a protected geographical indication (GI) product, marking the first time a product from our city has received this national designation.
Grown in sandy soil, Jiayuguan Onions develop a unique quality—large fist-sized bulbs with tightly layered, armor-like scales, dense flesh, and a pungent yet subtly sweet flavor. Known for their rich taste and fine texture, they are celebrated as the "Sweetheart of the Silk Road." With the GI certification, the Jiayuguan Onion is no longer just an agricultural product but has also become a cultural emblem.
