In the height of summer, a leisurely stroll along the Taolai Riverbank offers breathtaking scenery at every turn. Gentle breezes sway lush greenery, while meticulously landscaped gardens enhance the river's meandering charm, creating a serene retreat reminiscent of a hidden paradise—a perfect escape for residents seeking respite from the heat.
To optimize water resource utilization, improve aquatic ecosystems, and enhance urban environmental quality, Jiayuguan City launched a comprehensive ecological restoration project in August 2020. Spanning 6.74 kilometers from Anyuangou to the Jiayuguan-Jiuquan boundary, the initiative has achieved remarkable results:
Restored 2.5456 million sqm of riverine ecology
Developed 284,100 sqm of wetland systems
Rehabilitated 1,036.82 mu (69 hectares) of erosion-prone buffer zones along the southern bank
Constructed 26.15 km of reinforced embankments
Completed 13 km of paved riverside paths with ecological landscaping and ambient lighting
Built 3 bridges connecting rural road networks
Established three cultural-ecological parks (South Lake, Taolai River, and Pearl)
These efforts have transformed the area into a thriving, adaptable green corridor that breathes new life into urban development. Blending natural preservation with recreational spaces, the project sets a benchmark for sustainable water management while boosting the city's economic vitality—where every sunset now reflects not just natural beauty, but also human ingenuity in harmony with the environment.
