The protection of the Great Wall is a systematic project. Our city, leveraging the construction of the Great Wall National Cultural Park, has deeply explored the cultural and tourism resources of the Great Wall, aiming to create the most distinctive and influential landmark of Great Wall culture. By advancing the Great Wall National Cultural Park (Jiayuguan Section) project, we are witnessing a flourishing of cultural and tourism activities both inside and outside the Great Wall, with its charm radiating far and wide.
Systematic Protection as the Top Priority
The primary mission of the Great Wall National Cultural Park is to protect the Great Wall systematically and holistically. The ongoing renovation and enhancement project of the Jiayuguan Fortress Scenic Area serves as a key supporting initiative for the construction of the Great Wall National Cultural Park (Jiayuguan Section).
Strategic Planning for Four Functional Zones
"We have scientifically planned four main functional zones: strictly demarcated protection areas, accurately positioned theme exhibition areas, innovatively developed cultural-tourism integration zones, and reasonably expanded traditional utilization zones," said Zhao Gang, Director of Planning and Construction at the Grand Scenic Area Management Committee. The city has prepared a major project portfolio for the Great Wall National Cultural Park (Jiayuguan Section), including 11 categories and 50 projects, with a total investment of nearly 10 billion yuan, such as the new Great Wall Museum exhibition.
Integrating Protection and Development
To actively promote the construction of the Great Wall National Cultural Park, our city has focused on key areas like Great Wall preservation and cultural-tourism integration, building a development system where cultural relics and related fields coexist and thrive. Zhao Gang noted that through these projects, the Jiayuguan Fortress, Guan Cheng Li, and Fantawild Silk Road Myth theme park will operate as an interconnected tourism cluster, leveraging the comprehensive effects of a national all-for-one tourism demonstration zone to create an international Great Wall cultural tourism destination.
Progress and Achievements
To date, the city has completed the main structures and ancillary facilities of three major buildings: the Tourist Service Center, the Great Wall Museum, and the Heritage Monitoring Center. This ensures the sustainable and rational utilization of Great Wall heritage while upgrading the quality of cultural-tourism integration.
Beyond Protection: Leveraging Great Wall Resources
Merely protecting the Great Wall is not enough—its resources must also be utilized to drive high-quality cultural-tourism integration. In recent years, our city has seized new opportunities in cultural-tourism synergy, integrating unique resources to enhance all-for-one tourism. As a key landmark, the Great Wall has attracted countless visitors.
Voices from Visitors
"I came all the way from Beijing to see the 'First Pass Under Heaven.' The Great Wall stretches thousands of miles, symbolizing the unbroken continuity of Chinese culture," said Huang Yanyan, a tourist from Beijing.
"I’ve always been fascinated by Chinese history, especially the culture of the Great Wall. Today, visiting Jiayuguan, I’m awed by its grandeur and the profound legacy of Great Wall culture," shared Li Zekai, a traveler from Singapore.
Deepening Cultural-Tourism Integration
Promoting in-depth cultural-tourism integration and expanding the "Great Wall+" concept are effective pathways to preserve historical heritage and advance the Great Wall National Cultural Park. This year, to enrich tourism offerings and enhance nighttime experiences, the Jiayuguan Fortress Scenic Area launched the "Night Illumination Show: The Magnificent Jiayuguan." Using the fortress as its backdrop and themes of Great Wall and Silk Road culture, the show employs laser projections, digital technology, and live performances to deliver an immersive experience for visitors.
