The East Lake ecotourism scenic spot is the largest ecological construction project in the history of urban construction in Jiayuguan City, and it is also the leading project in the development and construction of the southern urban area. It was built in September 2002, and the construction contents of phase I and phase II were completed in August 2006. The scenic spot is planned and designed according to the concept of "people-oriented, water-based and green based". It is a comprehensive ecotourism scenic spot integrating leisure and entertainment, sightseeing, weather prediction, popular science education, improving ecology, hosting domestic and foreign sports events, regulating and storing water, and is known as the "Gobi pearl".
        The scenic area covers a total area of 1.65 million square meters, with an artificial lake of 560000 square meters, a total inventory of 3.15 million cubic meters, a ribbon river of 640 meters, a central square of 30000 square meters, more than 300 sets of lighting, as well as scenic spot facilities such as waterfall corridor, landscape pavilion, green corridor, arch bridge, wharf, triathlon memorial sculpture and sports event conversion area, and 90 hectares of green space, More than 100000 trees of all kinds were planted. In 2006, the scenic spot was identified as the triathlon training base and special field by the State General Administration of sports. Major events such as the International Triathlon championship and the Asian Triathlon Championship have been successfully held in succession.
