With the deepening of the implementation of the national "one road, one belt" major strategy, the adjustment and upgrading of local economic structure, the rapid development of economy, society and tourism in Jiayuguan City, the passenger source and routes of Jiayuguan airport are stable. In 2019, the passenger throughput is 581000 person times, and the cargo throughput is 1801 tons, which has exceeded the 300000 designed in the short-term target year (2015) of the general planning of Jiayuguan airport in 2004 It is predicted that the number of people will continue to grow rapidly in the future. The existing supporting facilities of the airport are small in scale, and some of them can no longer meet the requirements of the new national standard, so it is urgent to carry out reconstruction and expansion. The implementation of this project is of great significance to improve the airport service capacity, accelerate the construction of Jiayuguan International Airport, promote the opening of air ports, build a regional comprehensive transportation hub, and promote the high-quality development of regional economy.

        The reconstruction and expansion project of Jiayuguan airport is the need to promote the construction of "Silk Road Economic Belt" and build an air port, to adapt to the rapid growth of airport aviation business, to promote the social and economic development of Jiayuguan, and to promote the development of tourism in Jiayuguan.
        The project is designed to meet the requirements of 1.6 million passenger throughput, 10000 tons cargo throughput and 15181 aircraft movements in 2030. It is mainly to reconstruct the existing runway, to build and reconstruct the existing apron, to build a new 14000 square meter T2 terminal, to transform T1 terminal, to build a new tower and air traffic control building, to expand the terminal area, and to build supporting facilities such as navigation lighting, air traffic control, power supply, cooling and heating, communication and so on.

        In the next step, we will further optimize the terminal configuration and terminal area layout planning, handle planning permission, land use, resource utilization, safety production and other related construction procedures in strict accordance with relevant laws and regulations, and formulate scientific and orderly construction plans and production measures in accordance with relevant civil aviation regulations to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.
        In the first half of 2021, the preliminary design of the expansion project of Jiayuguan airport will be submitted for approval, all kinds of procedures for the construction of the airport will be handled and put on record, and the main works of the terminal building and ancillary buildings in the terminal area will be completed within this year.
